Mission
Welcome to The Helen Gallagher Archive, a work in progress.
Over the course of a long and remarkable life, Helen Gallagher made an enduring impact through her work in theater, film, television, music, and in teaching singing. She reached a wide audience of which there are many devoted followers around the world. Until now, there has been no centralized, accessible, and thoughtfully curated archive dedicated to preserving and presenting her life’s contributions in a meaningful way. Much of her work—including rare photos, recordings, interviews, scripts, and personal writings—has remained scattered, inaccessible to the public, and at risk of being forgotten.
This project was created to solve that problem by building a digital archive that not only protects and preserves this invaluable collection, but also invites the public into her story through a dynamic and user-friendly platform. The site is designed to provide researchers, fans, historians, and future generations with easy access to a comprehensive and organized view of her life’s work and legacy.
Acknowledgments
In addition to the 10 boxes of mementos kept in my care, this work would not have been possible in the last 6 months without material found online which included the following: Wikipedia, Internet Broadway DataBase (IBDB), AboutTheArtists.com, Ovrtur.com, Fandom Wiki, Internet Movie DataBase (IMDB), TV Guide, Television Academy, New York Public Library of the Performing Art, various sellers on eBay (too many to mention here).
Those who worked closely with me on the project and whose input has been essential leading up to the launch were Sarah Lichty (a god-send) and Allan Hoving.
This archival yet living website has been conceived and brought to life with artistry by web designer/programmer James Ewing.
Thanks to the estate of Helen Gallagher and its executor and close friend Patti Specht for entrusting me with this project.
— Barry Schneider, Acting Archivist
