Helen Gallagher, born in Brooklyn in 1926 and raised in the Bronx, became one of Broadway’s most beloved and enduring triple threats—a gifted actress, singer, and dancer known for her magnetic stage presence and emotional depth. Rising to prominence in the 1950s, she built a distinguished career across theater, television, film and cabaret, earning Tony Awards for Pal Joey (1952) and No, No, Nanette (1971), and 3 Emmy Awards for Ryan’s Hope (1976, 1977 and 1988) which expanded her devoted following into the 1990’s and beyond. Alongside her performing career, she became a respected teacher of voice and performance, mentoring generations of students with warmth, discipline and generosity.
